QUICK CHECKS
Fire doors & notices
- Match the door
- A self-closing door notice tells people not to obstruct it or keep it propped open. A door held open by an automatic device needs different wording. Confirm the fire/smoke door type and exact wording on the approved door schedule.
- Position & faces
- Fit on or adjacent to the applicable door, visible on the required approach. Horizontal exits, two-way smoke doors and final discharge doors require the specified notices on both faces. For applicable automatically held-open doors, use the adjacent wall or both door faces as required.
- Lettering & fixing
- Where NCC D3D28 applies, use contrasting capitals at least 20 mm high. Confirm exact wording and faces; use the approved door-assembly fixing detail and keep hardware and seals clear.
NSW fire-exit offence notices
- This separate NSW-only notice follows section 108 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment (Development Certification and Fire Safety) Regulation 2021. Fit prominently beside access doorways, outside the fire-isolated stairway, passageway or ramp. Do not substitute it for another state’s notice.
