QUICK CHECKS
Emergency exit
- Confirm
- Match the sign type, legend, direction, viewing-distance rating and position to the approved emergency-lighting and evacuation plans.
- Position
- Keep signs visible from the intended approach. Check arrows, level/stair names and instructions before manufacture and again after fitting.
- Fix & check
- Use the project mounting detail. Keep the escape route clear and recheck visibility after changes to the building.
Exit-sign type matters
- Illuminated: electrical installation is by a licensed electrical contractor. Connect, commission and test the complete emergency-lighting system.
- Non-illuminated panels are normally supplementary wayfinding. Use as a required exit sign only where the applicable NCC variation and approved emergency-lighting design expressly permit it.
- Photoluminescent: use an approved passive or hybrid system and rated legend. Passive signs need dedicated light of at least 100 lux at the face, rated at least 4000 K. Verify 30 mcd/m² for 90 minutes and all Specification 25 design limits. Hybrid systems require project-specific approval. Maintain the specified charging light; confirm the adopted code edition and state variation.
Plans and route markers
- Assembly, refuge, stair and floor markers follow the approved emergency/wayfinding plan. Supplementary markers do not replace specified exit luminaires.
- Orient site and evacuation plans to the reader’s installed viewpoint. Confirm the site address, equipment, route and location marker; recheck after moving a plan or changing the layout. Hydrant block plans follow AS 2419.1 Section 11 and the approved fire-services detail.
